35. Noise pollution in the work environment and the management of emotions and stress levels.
To solve the problem of air pollution, it is crucial to first believe that we have the right to purify the air, and then take measures to protect that right. However, it is shocking that so many men, while dissatisfied with their environment, sit idly by, silently enduring the onslaught of polluted air on their noses and lungs.
Men must first understand that polluted air not only hinders normal breathing but also stains clothes, irritates the sense of smell, and leaves a dirty film of dust on hair, skin, and other surfaces, which is extremely harmful. Furthermore, toxic gases and polluted air can affect the normal functioning of various organs in the body, hindering the smooth progress of work.
One way to resolve the conflict between smokers and non-smokers is to use a method similar to that adopted by airlines, dividing the office into several small rooms so that smokers and non-smokers work separately. Another way is to have to establish a rule in your office. For example, in many hospitals, doctors put up "No Smoking" signs in their offices. In those offices that strictly follow the rules, you won't even see ashtrays.
For a boss in your own office, it's best to first conduct a comprehensive survey of all your employees to understand their opinions on issues, and then establish a system that benefits the majority as much as possible. Some offices now have rules prohibiting smoking at desks; anyone who wants to smoke must do so in designated areas such as the break room, restrooms, or outdoors. I've even seen an office where their solution was to simply leave the main door wide open. If you haven't properly surveyed your employees' opinions beforehand, you'll find that resentment is much greater than before, and this underlying resentment towards working conditions and office rules will significantly hinder the smooth operation of work.
If a man values his body and the health of his organs, he will demand a solution to air pollution; but the most frightening thing is that if you can't stand up for your rights, you will only suffer the consequences of your environment.
How ideal it would be if you were now purifying the air around you and preparing to put in the effort to combat the noise in your ears! Irrelevant, sudden, and harmful sounds constantly assault your eardrums, yet almost no one takes the time to deal with and overcome this situation. Noise interference often disrupts work processes in many offices and workshops.
If you're going to make some changes, take a little time to check the sound in your work environment: Are the machines constantly making loud noises? Are you constantly disturbed by voices while you're working? Are there noises coming from outside your work area? Do you often find yourself seeking peace and quiet in the restroom when you feel dizzy, lightheaded, or restless? Or do you find yourself only feeling relieved when you leave the office?
If a man answers all of the above questions in the affirmative, then it can be concluded that you are suffering from noise pollution.
Men use their senses very differently in how they perceive and understand the world around them. Some rely heavily on their ears, some on their eyes, and others on their sense of touch or smell. Men who rely on hearing as their primary means of receiving information are often very sensitive to sound, meaning that noise pollution is far more disruptive to them than to men who depend on other senses such as sight and touch.
Think back to whether there are any signs of noise in your office or workshop. If this is a problem for you, then make a list of options. Room size, distance between machines, soundproofing of walls, ceilings, windows, etc., barriers between work areas, and regulations on loud talking-all of these can create a relaxed, quiet atmosphere for your ears. Sometimes, simple solutions such as hanging curtains, laying carpets, or installing soundproof vinyl flooring can significantly reduce noise.
Please follow these steps to achieve good results:
Listen to what your ears and body are telling you. Is there a lot of noise at work? Listen to where the noise is coming from.
Explore the possibilities of limiting and reducing the root causes of noise.
Consider feasible methods to achieve environmental tranquility.
Change your environment to be quiet and relaxing.
I appreciate the smoothness and comfort of working after the improvements.
Emotional state
Whether a man manages his own time or it is imposed upon him, he must establish his own system. Of course, a man's emotional state at work greatly influences his performance. When angry, sad, upset, lacking courage, desperate, or under intense stress, work is prone to errors and efficiency is low. Conversely, when cheerful and confident, work proceeds smoothly and efficiently. Many factors influence a man's emotional state, spanning various fields from biological to sociological, personal to environmental, and even psychological. Crucially, it is essential to acknowledge that one's emotional state is a factor affecting work performance. Only by recognizing and acknowledging this can one manage their emotional life. Unfortunately, most men fail to recognize the importance of their emotions or simply do not want to address the issue. A concerning phenomenon exists in society: so many men live in constant fear of others, of life, and even of themselves, helpless and resigned to their fate.
level of tension
The most fundamental factor affecting a man's work progress, speed, efficiency, and enjoyment is the level of muscle tension. Many things happen when a man's body is under tension. Below are some of the possible events that occur, experiences that illustrate a state of tension.
Increased desire to avoid work; frequent mistakes; disorganized thinking, planning, and work; accidents; mental confusion and reduced ability to concentrate on one task; memory loss; decreased interest in work; physical discomfort (indigestion, headache); picky eating; incoherent speech; increased craving for alcohol; increased smoking; more frequent feelings of fatigue; restlessness.
When the above phenomena occur in a man's life, he is almost certainly caught in a vicious cycle of tension. This vicious cycle leads to an increase in stressful factors and a deepening of tension. Each of the phenomena listed here is a sign of tension, indicating that it's time to break the cycle, examine the root cause of the tension, and adopt relaxation techniques. Unfortunately, few men are truly aware of their tension when it arises. If a man learns to pay attention to and analyze these signs of tension, he can consciously improve his work efficiency and increase his interest in his work.
Once a man is aware of these signs of tension, he should then consider the factors causing his physical and psychological stress. Sadly, there are so many factors in life that could fill a large book. The phenomena listed below are merely samples of those factors, but they should guide you in identifying the underlying causes of tension:
Psychological conflicts, noisy environment, lack of sleep, excessively long intervals between holidays, insufficient light, rigid seating, time constraints, insufficient food intake, chronic self-pity, smoking, frequent overwork, poor ventilation, lack of relaxation exercises, marital conflicts, major life changes, financial difficulties, unexpressed emotions, staff members sitting too close together, having more to do than you want to do, overly serious colleagues, excessive drinking, work requiring prolonged close-range visual focus, continuous stress from making important or risky decisions, working with tense or rushed people, stress from excellent work, and a lack of clear understanding of work procedures.
Understanding these kinds of life phenomena and experiences provides men with a basis for making choices on certain issues. A man can also use these phenomena as a foundation, adding other factors that might cause him anxiety. I believe everyone is capable of finding solutions independently.
Quality requirements
Quality requirements are perhaps the simplest factor affecting a man's efficiency. Many men mistakenly believe that high quality is necessary for everything, leading them to waste enormous amounts of time and energy pointlessly striving for efficiency, organization, and perfection in tasks that don't actually require high quality. In practice, if a man's quality requirements exceed his actual needs, his work will inevitably be inefficient because he's investing unnecessary time and energy. Three points you must remember: Quality requirements should be determined based on the nature and content of the work; when faced with various tasks, you should decide which quality standards are necessary and which are expected; reflect on your personal standards and whether they align with the job's requirements.
