Standards of male health

The World Health Organization (WHO) has proposed a new concept of health: health is not merely the absence of disease, but also includes mental and social well-being. In other words, health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being.

To further help people fully and accurately understand the concept of health, the World Health Organization has established ten criteria for measuring whether a person is healthy:

◎They have abundant energy and can handle daily life and heavy work with ease without feeling overly stressed or tired.

◎ Optimistic and positive attitude; willing to take responsibility; not picky about anything, big or small.

◎Good at resting and sleeps well.

◎ It has strong adaptability and can adapt to various changes in the external environment.

◎ It can resist common colds and infectious diseases.

◎ Appropriate weight, well-proportioned body, and coordinated head, shoulder, and arm positions when standing.

◎Bright eyes, quick reflexes, and eyelids are not prone to inflammation.

◎Teeth are clean, free of cavities, and painless; gums are of normal color and there is no bleeding.

◎Hair is shiny and free of dandruff.

◎Full-muscled and elastic skin.

◎Congenital Factors: A man's health is greatly influenced by his parents' innate endowments. The parents' constitution largely determines the newborn's strength and even their lifelong health. If the parents are healthy, their child will have abundant endowments and a strong physique; conversely, if the parents are weak and sickly or have given birth at an older age, their child will have insufficient endowments, a weak constitution, and be prone to illness, even genetic or congenital diseases. Furthermore, parental fatigue, exhaustion, or sexual activity while ill are all unfavorable congenital factors affecting male health.

◎Acquired factors:

Social factors: Due to intense social competition, men face work stress and heavy mental burdens, leading to a significant increase in mental illnesses, cardiovascular diseases, as well as erectile dysfunction, nocturnal emission, and low sexual function. Because men have more opportunities to work away from home and often engage in dangerous jobs, they are more likely to become victims of accidents such as traffic accidents. The rampant spread of AIDS in Western countries is a clear example of how social factors affect men's health.

Emotional factors: Men often suffer from internal organ damage due to uncontrolled emotions, leading to conditions such as hypertension, coronary heart disease, ulcers, neurosis, migraines, hyperthyroidism, diabetes, and even cancer. Studies have found that when a man's cerebral cortex is functioning normally, the body's nervous and endocrine functions are stable, and testicular spermatogenesis and sexual function are normal. However, if a man is in a state of prolonged depression, pessimism, or worry, the cerebral cortex and the body's nervous and endocrine functions will become imbalanced, impairing testicular spermatogenesis and sexual function, thus increasing the likelihood of infertility.

⊙Climatic Factors: The adverse effects of climate on health mainly manifest as illness caused by the invasion of the body by the six pathogenic factors (wind, cold, heat, dampness, dryness, and fire) and epidemic pathogens. For example, windy springs often lead to febrile diseases; hot summers often cause fever and heatstroke. In reality, specific geographical environments can lead to specific climate changes. For instance, the northwest is windy and cold, while the coastal areas of southern China are hot and humid, thus affecting health differently.

Dietary factors: The impact of dietary factors on men's health is mainly manifested in the following ways: Irregular eating habits, such as overeating or skipping meals, are especially prevalent among men today. Indulging in personal preferences and having unbalanced diets negatively impacts health, particularly excessive smoking and drinking. Some men are unaware of the beneficial properties of food and often eat indiscriminately. For example, some men with a deficiency of Yang energy frequently consume cold or cooling foods; others with low sexual function mistakenly consume foods detrimental to sexual function, and so on.

⊙Lifestyle factors: Lifestyle factors are one of the important reasons affecting men's health. These mainly manifest as irregular sleep patterns, overwork, and excessive leisure.

⊙Sexual Life Factors: For men, sexual activity is neither necessary nor excessive. Suppression of sexual activity can negatively impact physical and mental health, leading to physiological and psychological imbalances and potentially causing illness. Excessive and unrestrained sexual activity inevitably damages kidney essence, depletes energy, and harms the spirit. Modern immunology also suggests that frequent intercourse and repeated, high-level systemic arousal inevitably lead to significant energy consumption, weakened organ function, and reduced regulatory function of the body's immune system. Clinically, men with kidney deficiency due to excessive sexual activity often experience symptoms such as sluggish thinking, dull eyes, lower back and knee weakness, dizziness, tinnitus, forgetfulness, fatigue, impotence, premature ejaculation, seminal emission, and susceptibility to colds. Therefore, only moderate sexual activity is beneficial to physical and mental health. Men who are energetic and appear youthful are often those with fulfilling sex lives.
