Notice on Launching "Men's Health Promotion Day" Activities
Family Planning Office Document No. 130 [2001]
Family planning commissions of all provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities directly under the Central Government; family planning commissions of cities with independent planning status and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps; family planning commissions of central government departments and central state organs; and family planning leading group offices of the People's Liberation Army and the Armed Police Force:
In 2000, some provinces and cities launched "Men's Health Day" publicity campaigns themed "Focusing on Men's Reproductive Health and Men's Participation in Family Planning," which achieved excellent social publicity results. To further promote "Focusing on Men's Reproductive Health and Men's Participation in Family Planning," the National Population and Family Planning Commission organized a nationwide "Men's Health Publicity Day" event on October 28, 2001, with the theme "Men's Health and Civilized Families."
Family planning commissions in all provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) are requested to organize and carry out the following publicity campaigns based on the theme and in light of local conditions:
I. Using urban and rural population schools as a platform, we will promote and popularize scientific knowledge about male reproductive health to the general public, provide reproductive health services, encourage men to participate in population and family planning activities by focusing on male reproductive health, advocate that husbands are responsible for family planning, and promote family civilization and progress.
II. The National Population and Family Planning Commission will organize the editing and publication of a series of books, VCDs, and other promotional materials on male reproductive health, which will be distributed free of charge to grassroots communities. Local authorities may also produce promotional materials on male reproductive health as needed and distribute them widely on "Men's Health Promotion Day."
Third, on "Men's Health Promotion Day", localities may, based on their local conditions, carry out centralized social promotion on men's health, organize relevant expert consultations and free clinics, and provide reproductive health services for male citizens.
IV. The China Population Culture Promotion Association is entrusted to conduct pilot community activities for "Men's Health Promotion Day" in five cities: Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Hangzhou, and Guangzhou. Relevant provincial and municipal family planning commissions are requested to assist in the organization and implementation.
